What is the Best Source of Probiotics?

Many people have asked, and here is my answer! Do probiotic supplements provide the same benefits as foods???  You would think so, considering they are marketed the same way, right? Both probiotic foods and the supplements are in fact providing healthy bacteria for your gut, but getting the probiotic sources from foods such as sauerkraut, yogurt, kimchi or fermented vegetables is significantly more beneficial for you!

Contrary to popular belief, probiotics are not a new concept. The only thing that is new is that you can consume them in a pill form and in kombucha now.

People have been consuming probiotics for YEARS in the form of fermented and cultured foods. Fermented foods provide you with a much wider variety of beneficial bacteria than the pill form of probiotics, making it a much more cost effective alternative as well.

Most probiotic supplements do not contain more than 10 billion colony forming units. But fermented foods have been shown to contain more than 10 trillion colony forming units of bacteria! How awesome is that?!

Fermented foods contain unique strains that you cannot get in a pill form, and research is starting to show how they are beneficial for our health in many different ways. For example, both sauerkraut and kimchi are a great source of probiotics and have been studied for their anti-cancer benefits!

Overall, probiotics are necessary for your digestive health. Yes, getting your source from probiotic-rich food is more beneficial than a supplement form, but as long as you are ingesting some form of probiotics you are going to improve your digestion, build a stronger immune system and increase your energy levels!
